Last week, the EPA announced this year’s recipients of Brownfield Investment Grants for 171 communities nationwide.  These Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup (ARC) grants provide money to assess and clean-up abandoned industrial and commercial properties.  Of the $67 million awarded this year, $23.5 million will be directed towards communities impacted by power plant closures.  Two Kentucky recipients will receive a total of $1 million to assess petroleum and hazardous substances, mostly through Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.  The City of Frankfort was awarded grants totaling $400,000 and the Northern Kentucky Area Development District was awarded grants totaling $600,000.  For more information on grants awarded in your state visit http://cfpub.epa.gov/bf_factsheets/index.cfm.
