Smith Management will be participating in the ASTM Webinar “Changes to the ASTM 1527 Standard: What You Need to Know Now” on Thursday June 6th.  The new Phase I standard is under review by the EPA, and the standard will likely be published later this year.  The changes in the standard include changes to the Recognized Environmental Condition (REC), Historical REC, and a new term – Controlled REC.  The new standard strengthens the language regarding regulatory agency reviews.  We will also see the inclusion of evaluations for vapor migration.  While SMG already evaluates vapor migration under appropriate conditions and considers controlled sites in our conclusions,  we will be revising our Phase I reports to reflect the standard changes over the next several months.  Clients may see new terms or sections added to the report, but know the high quality and timeliness of our reports will continue to be what you have come to expect.  If you have any questions about the changes expected in the standard, contact Karen Thompson or Clay Whitney at 859-231-8936.
