EPA has released its fourth year of Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program data, including information from facilities in 41 source categories. It provides details on greenhouse gas pollution trends and emissions broken down by industrial sector, geographic region and individual facilities.

This program collects facility-level greenhouse gas data from major industrial sources across the United States, including power plants, oil and gas production and refining, iron and steel mills and landfills. The program also collects data on the increasing production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) which is predominantly used in refrigeration and air conditioning.

Over 8,000 facilities and suppliers reported to the greenhouse gas reporting program in 2013 which represents approximately 50 percent of the total US emissions. Among these reports:

  • 7,879 facilities in nine industry sectors reported direct emissions;
  • Reported direct emissions totaled 3.18 billion metric tons carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) which is about half of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions;
  • 965 suppliers reported;
  • 92 facilities reported injecting CO2 underground.
