On February 9, 2010, EPA finalized requirements for the new 1 hour Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) standard. NO2 is a large component of mobile emissions. If states have a core based statistical area with a population greater than 500,000 then “near road” monitoring is required. Kentucky is required to have one monitoring site operational by January 1, 2014. The site will be operated by the Louisville Metro Air District. The proposed location will be at 1517 Durrett Lane about 0.9 miles north of the I-264/I-65 interchange.
