On Thursday, May 7th, a 60 day public comment period opened for the 2014 draft listing of impaired waters focused on two Western Kentucky watersheds.  Specifically, the Green River and Tradewater River basin management units are the focus of new impairment listings for the 2014 303(d) list.  Included on this list are tributaries of Floyds Fork, the Ohio River, and the Green River.

Each waterbody listed as impaired is required to develop a TMDL (total maximum daily load) to limit certain inputs into the waterbody.  Once finalized, the TMDL is used in crafting limitations on NPDES discharge permits for various industries, developers, and municipal entities.

You can see if a stream near you is proposed on this 2014 list (Copy of Draft 2014 303(d) List), and the reason for its proposed impairment using the attached spreadsheet.  If you have questions about how this will impact your watershed, you can contact me as josiahf@smithmanage.com
