EPA’s Game of Secret Science” (subscriber content) was the title of an editorial that appeared in Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal.  The author was Rep. Lamar Smith who represents the 21st District of Texas and is chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.  You can read more about Rep. Smith’s view on EPA’s secret science here and obtain a link to his letter to EPA.

I strongly agree with Rep. Smith’s assessment.  I have reviewed EPA’s statistical justification for their regulations with much skepticism.  The numbers, to me, have not made sense.  It’s interesting that in 2004, the National Academy of Science declared that the data the EPA is using is of “little use for decision making”.  Rep. Smith is correct in demanding that the basis for the agency’s air quality initiative and claim’s related to the “social cost of carbon” be provided to the public.  I strongly recommend that you read this article.
