The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on the Environment and Economy released an updated draft of “The TSCA Modernization Act of 2015,” on May 13, 2015. This draft intends to reform and modernize the decades-old Toxic Substance Control Act. The TSCA Modernization discussion draft states that “the goal is to provide the public with greater confidence in the safety of American made chemicals and the products that contain them.” This draft is an effort to improve the safety of chemicals while encouraging continued economic growth. The companion bill in the Senate – S. 697 or the “Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act” – is bipartisanly supported.  It has been favorably reported out of committee and is awaiting action on the floor.
