The Tennessee Department of Transportation has conducted tests over an eight month period on the performance of a new silt fence product.
Silt-Saver Inc. is the name of the company that produces the Staged Release Silt Fence (SRSF). The study site was along interstate I-65 near Franklin, TN. Testing was completed by the end of the summer of 2014. The product reportedly satisfactorily controlled stormwater runoff from multiple storms at the construction site. The effort required and ease of installation is what supposedly differentiates this silt fence product from the traditional silt fence. Regardless of what type of silt fence contractors choose to use for erosion control at construction sites, proper installation according to manufacturer specifications and regulatory agency specifications is the critical step for long-lasting, effective sediment control.
