Several months ago, we highlighted the new aboveground storage tank rule that would take affect in West Virginia.  Click here for that update.

Deadlines for the rule are quickly approaching.  Tank owners in West Virginia are reminded to register their aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) with the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) prior to October 1, 2014.  Storage containers with volume capacities of 1,320 gallons or more which are 90 percent or more above ground in fixed location for more than 60 days must be registered.  Tank information to be provided includes data about tank contents, location and size; age of each tank, the material it is constructed of; what sort of secondary containment measures are in place and whether it is regulated by any other state or federal regulatory programs.

If you have questions about this program you can contact Ken Kirk at SMG (kenk@smithmanage.com) or the West Virginia AST program general contact, Kelley Gillenwater at (304) 926-0442.
